Supporting the Dignity and Education of Young Women in Kenya Through Pad Drive

For most of us, access to sanitary products is a given. But for many girls across Kenya, this basic necessity remains out of reach, affecting not only their health and dignity, but also their ability to attend school and participate fully in everyday life.

Across Kenya, period poverty continues to impact thousands of young women and girls. Without access to safe menstrual products, many are forced to miss several days of school each month, while others face stigma, isolation, or health risks from unsafe alternatives.

Recently, our team in Kenya was approached to support Pad Drive 2026, a student-led menstrual health initiative coordinated by SCOPH-MKU (Standing Committee on Public Health, Mount Kenya University). The initiative focused on supporting more than 1,500 schoolgirls across Thika sub-county, including students at Kenyatta Girls High School and the Thika School for the Blind.

What made this initiative particularly powerful was its inclusive approach. Alongside the distribution of sanitary products, the programme also delivered menstrual health education, mental health and stigma reduction workshops, and disability-inclusive support for visually impaired students – an often-overlooked area in menstrual health programming.

At Oximio, we firmly believe in the strength of community and the importance of supporting initiatives that create meaningful, lasting impact. Our Kenyan operation did not hesitate to offer financial support to this worthwhile cause.

Last week, sanitary supplies were successfully distributed to more than 1,500 girls across priority schools within the region. The initiative was a resounding success and a powerful example of what can be achieved through collaboration, education, and community engagement.

We are proud to have played a small part in helping promote dignity, confidence, and opportunity for young women in the communities where we operate.
